In a recent review by Real World Labs, using the five distinct benchmarking applications including: HD Tune Professional, HD Tach RW, ATTO, Sisoftware Sandra Pro and the Crystal Disk Mark 64bit — the 2TB Constellation ES SAS drive exceeded the reviewer’s expectations in a multiple drive environment.
Utilizing Intel’s Core i7 systems to test the Seagate Constellation ES SAS drives along with the LSI SAS MegaRAID 9260-4i controller card, the tests were performed in a “real world” testing environment. No surprise — the drives performed extremely well in all tests in a 3-drive RAID system.
“As i said right from the start, the Constellation ES SAS drives do offer a better price/capacity/performance ratio … Certainly the cost is not small for the end user but since this hardware is primarily meant for enterprise use I wouldn’t call it expensive either.”
“Bottom line is if I was to build a high end server system and wanted the best in terms of performance, noise, heat output and power consumption, then the Constellation ES SAS hard disk drives would be on top of my list along with an LSI MegaRAID SAS card.
- Impressive Performance In Both Single And RAID 0 Modes
- Silent Running
- Low Power Consumption
- Minor Heat Output
- High Price/Performance/Capacity Ratio
- Superior Data Protection (check out the new FIPS-certified models with tamper resistance labeling)

I would like to see more commitment from Intel and Seagate to test equipment for compatibility. as at 20 January 2011, the 2TB SAS drive is not yet on the supported hardware list for the Intel Modular Server (MFSYS35).
